Here is the CFJ, complete with Concurring Opinion: ====================================================================== JUDGMENT CFJ 831 Rule 1527 should be interpreted such that all events contained in a message occur at the time of the Date: header, even though they occur sequentially ====================================================================== Judge: Zefram Judgement: FALSE Eligible: Andre, Chuck, Coco, Dave Bowen, elJefe, favor, KoJen, Michael, Morendil, Oerjan, Saltwater, Steve, Wes, Zefram Not Eligible: Caller: Vanyel Barred: On Hold: 1005: Effects: Zefram gains 5 Points for speedy Judgement ====================================================================== History: Called by Vanyel, 10 Nov 1995, 11:50 -0600 CST Assigned to Zefram, 13 Nov 1995, 11:34 MET Judged FALSE by Zefram, 15 Nov 1995, 16:33 +0000 (GMT) Concurring Opinion issued by Andre, sponsored by Morendil and elJefe, 16 Nov 1995, 15:20 MET ====================================================================== Requested Injunction: I request that if this CFJ is Judged TRUE, Rule 1527 be Annotated with the above Statement. Arguments: Well, they *do* occur at the same time, seperated only infinitesimally; I find this obvious, as a mathemetician, however this caused some confusion recently and should be clarified. ====================================================================== Reasoning of the Judge: I agree with the Caller's argument that such events occur at the same time, to the precision of an email timestamp (one second). But I disagree with other aspects of the argument. The statement of the CFJ refers to the Date: header, which according to Game Custom is not necessarily the time of events contained within the message. In particular, the Date: header is generally ignored when it is known to be significantly inaccurate. The statement of this CFJ is therefore false on this point. Secondly, events separated by infinitesemal amounts of time do not occur at the same time. It is a simple mathematical fact that infinitesemal numbers do not equal zero, and numbers with an infinitesemal difference are not equal. It is also part of the meaning of the word "sequential", which is used in the Rule in question. Only one such time can be exactly any specific time, with all the other times being infinitesemally different from it. Thus if any event in an email message occurs at the time of its Date: header, only one of the events can. The other events occur at infinitesemally different times. ====================================================================== Concurring Opinion: CONCURRING OPINION ON CFJ 831 We do not agree with the second of the 2 Arguments given by the Judge. Events separated by infinitesimal amounts of time DO occur at the same time, although sequentially. However the first of the Judge's arguments (namely, that the Date: header is, according to Game Custom is not necessarily the time of events contained within the message), still forces us to agree with the final Judgement of FALSE. Issued by: Andre Sponsors: Morendil and elJefe ====================================================================== Injunction: The CFJ having been judged FALSE, I cannot make an Injunction. ====================================================================== Evidence added by the Judge: 1. Rule 1527/0 ---------------------------------------- Rule 1527/0 (Mutable, MI=1) Timing of Multiple Events in One Message Whenever a message contains more than one notification, report, or other communication in which the Rules place some legal significance, the communications in that message shall be taken to have been sent sequentially, separated by infinitesimal increments of time, in the order which they appear in the message.
